Getting Unstuck
I went into “reconsider a blog” mode yesterday. I haven’t been posting, but spent some time tweaking and experimenting with the settings - as one does. I used some Bearming theme tweaks for appearance change, and added some pictures.
A novel about writers (Yellowface, by R.F. Kuang) that I finished last night talked about writer’s processes and their notebooks. Writers keep notebooks of all sorts of collections of thoughts and snippets of conversation. Also, verbal sketches of interesting people or couples that may lead to writing ideas.
My “internal” journaling routine is far, far too routine. I changed today from my fountain pen and notebook to writing on the laptop, where I can write more - despite sketchy typing skills. In notebooks, I am going to try and record more observations and inspirations. I can write down blog ideas as I go, rather than try and come up with a list while only thinking about it very directly.
Maybe I try a travel journal on our upcoming trip, and really make it about observation, and less about plans inside my head for after the trip. It is true, though, that travel always gets my brain cranking about changes to make when I get home. That planning and anticipation is actually a very good thing. Maybe that is what I have been missing most of all over the past five years! No change of scene, and no inspiration for a “next level” of daily experience. This feels really true.
So, at least two approaches to getting unstuck and thinking again!
